NetworkComputer™
The high-performance grid computing engine
NetworkComputer is a full-featured grid computing engine. It offers load balancing, job queuing, resource management, license management (local and across geographies), job preemption, automatic fairshare.
NetworkComputer is a high-performance and high-capacity grid computing engine. With its event-driven scheduler, it dispatches jobs to the remote machines with near-zero latency.
NetworkComputer is a highly reliable engine, with journal-based crash recovery and automatic failover mechanisms.
NetworkComputer includes a unique visualization and failure analysis capability. Designers can see at a glance which jobs have completed successfully, which jobs have failed, and which jobs are waiting to run. For jobs that have failed, a simple click brings up relevant log files without wading through volumes of data.
Better Purchasing Decisions
Managers must constantly make decisions on how to use limited budgets to keep the design environment running as efficiently as possible. Often the decision to purchase additional tools is based on limited data. Unlike license managers that report usage statistics per license with no knowledge of the queuing system, NetworkComputer provides complete and accurate metrics that include:
- Unmet demand - how often were there not enough resources (software or hardware) to go around
- Wait time - how often was a resource available, but in the queue waiting for another resource to become available (i.e. a software license waiting for an option license or for a computer with enough memory)
Armed with this information, managers can:
- Determine which resources to purchase (or let go) to boost efficiency
- Create fair charge-back policies between departments that share resources
- Determine precise resource costs per project
- Know how best to use on-demand, short-term licenses
- Negotiate EDA license agreements with complete data on resource usage
Optimized for Engineering
NetworkComputer takes into account unique features of an engineering design environment that are not addressed in general purpose network computing solutions. These include:
| EDA Design Environment Feature | NetworkComputer Feature |
|---|---|
| Tendency for EDA jobs to fail | Unique visualization and failure analysis capabilities |
| Wide range of job types, from very short to extremely long | Almost zero latency - adds virtually no overhead, particularly important for small jobs |
| Large number of compute resources and software licenses | Capacity for thousands of resources |
| Multiple license managers | Works with EDA standard and custom license managers, like FLEXlm and Silvaco's sflm. |
